Holidaying in Cyprus - Some Thoughts Larnaca is situated on the southern coast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, just over 20 miles, as the crow flies, or between 40 and 50 minutes, by road, from the capital city, Nicosia. The climate of the region is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers, and cool winters. Average daily temperatures in the high twenties, or low thirties, degrees Celsius are typical during the summer months, and rainfall is rare, and light, at worst. Flying time to Larnaca International Airport is roughly 4½ hours, from London.
Larnaca Attractions
Historical attractions include the 9th century Ayios Lazarus, and the ancient city of Kition, to the northwest of Larnaca, which dates back to the 13th century BC. The Larnaca Festival, which takes place, annually, in July, features performances of dance, theatre and music by local, and international, artistes.

Greek and Turkish are the official languages of Cyprus, although English is widely spoken. The official currency, as of 1st January, 2008, is the Euro, major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, and travellers` cheques – preferably in Euros, or Pounds Sterling – can be exchanged at all banks.
